Mud, Boots & Hiking Trails

Mud, Boots & Hiking Trails

Category: Outdoor Adventures → Hiking & Trails

Some families go on hikes for fresh air and photos. Our family goes on hikes for mud pies, chaos, and arguments about who chose the longest hiking trail. Bonus points if someone (usually Parker) steps in the one puddle  of mud that covers your boots into instant grayish-brown fashion disaster and probably stinks too. That boy has never been able to avoid a puddle or water body.

We had the dogs, the kids, and even Moonpie trying to sneak along — but not way I am dealing with that heiffer on a hike.  The trail map? Optional. The laughs? Guaranteed. And the snacks? Well… if they survive the first 10 minutes, you’re lucky. Luckily dad always packs a “pocket sausage” (slim jims…get your mind out of the gutter).

Hiking with this crew is less “nature walk” and more “survival of the messy.” At the end, everyone smells like dirt, sticks, and a little bit of triumph and we find ticks for a few days in strange places… And that, my friends, is exactly why we keep lacing up our boots.
